Prysmian's Social Impact in the Era of Energy Transition

In today’s landscape, sustainability has become a central topic for companies worldwide. At Prysmian, as a global leader in the manufacturing of cables and solutions for energy and communications, this is no exception.

The entire team strives to achieve high standards of technological innovation while reaffirming its commitment to social impact. Alba Portela, Head of Marketing and Communications for Prysmian Latin America, addressed this approach.

Energy Transition with a Focus on People

From her position at Prysmian, with Portela leading for Latin America, the team responsible for societal impact aims to tackle two major challenges: advancing clean energy access to all communities and accelerating digitalization.

"These challenges are not only a response to market demands but also reflect Prysmian's purpose. The company’s social impact on these challenges is demonstrated by our ability to provide technological solutions that contribute to improving people’s quality of life,” explained Portela

The company recognizes that access to energy and telecommunications has become crucial for well-being and socioeconomic development worldwide. That is why Prysmian has taken on this role and works to offer products and solutions that drive the transition to a more sustainable future, always with people in mind.

Challenges in Public Policy and Infrastructure

Despite advances in energy and digital transition, Prysmian is aware that public policies and governmental readiness for renewable energies remain significant challenges that need to be addressed to achieve true social impact.

"While progress has been made on this front, there is still a long way to go to ensure a favorable regulatory environment that encourages the adoption of sustainable technologies. In regions like Latin America, infrastructure needs remain a significant challenge. Many communities still lack access to energy and telecommunications, which limits their development and economic growth,” Portela commented.

Prysmian sees these challenges as an opportunity and therefore works in collaboration with governments and local organizations to address the needs that promote sustainability while achieving connectivity.

Education and Internal Commitment

To become a leader in sustainability, Prysmian emphasizes the importance of education to achieve commitment from both its employees and customers.

"The sustainability process is a continuous learning journey for everyone, and Prysmian is focused on providing the tools and resources necessary to ensure that its team is trained and committed to this goal. That is why we have adopted a ‘Reason and Heart’ strategy to address social impact, which focuses on data measurement and the implementation of social initiatives with a specific purpose. In addition, Prysmian is carrying out educational and inclusion projects, such as the Rosac solar radio telescope project in Costa Rica, which aims to promote knowledge and participation in the transition to a more sustainable economy,” detailed Portela.

We are advancing on the path toward a more sustainable future, providing innovative technological solutions and promoting education and commitment within the organization. As a global leader in its industry, Prysmian is demonstrating that it is possible to drive sustainability while advancing socioeconomic and environmental progress.
